Objectives

Programme

The course “Protection of Soils” deals with the discussion of the main properties and key functions of the soil, highlighting its importance and significance in the biogeochemical cycles moreover in the definition of contaminants’ fate and transport.

One of the main objectives of the current subject the tuition of engineering solutions and tasks associated with risk management and risk reduction of degraded/contaminated soils.

Environmental engineers can get picture in the framework of the subject about the possibilities and techniques concerning the risk management of contaminated sites, as well as the methods of soil improvement and clean-up (soil remediation).

The soil, which is the foundation of all engineering structures and the material of all earthworks, is also one of the most vulnerable medium to contamination. The goal of this course to educate such knowledge, with which environmental engineeers can participate in design, organization and control of environmental projects related to soil in a creative way.
