Objectives
Statics of rigid and elastic bodies. Materials of mechanical structures. Machine elements: fasteners, seals, vessels, pipes and pipe accessories, bearings, couplings, chain, belt, V-belt drive.
Fluid mechanics. System approach. Basic law of fluid flow in pipes. Boundary layers. Compressible flow. Non-Newtonian fluids. Operation, performance and selection of pumps, compressors and vacuum pumps.
Handling and transportation of solids in bulk. Characteristics of solids. Fluidization. Storage in silos. Pneumatic conveying. Belt and screw conveyors and bucket elevators.
