(solutions, concentration, solid–liquid and vapor–liquid phase equilibria, freezing–melting–dew point–boiling temperatures, crystallization, distillation, sublimation)

Topic 4: Chemical Reactions
(stoichiometry, equilibrium reactions and their balancing, chemical equilibrium constant, reaction rate, activation energy, catalyst)

Topic 5: Thermochemistry
(endothermic and exothermic processes, reaction heat, latent heat, heat of formation, heat of combustion, heat of neutralization, heat of solution, Hess’s law, bond energy)

The course has no university-level prerequisites; general secondary school knowledge is sufficient for studying the subject.
General rules
Requirements: Two midterm tests will be held (covering Topics 1–6 and Topics 7–12, respectively). Each midterm is worth a maximum of 14 points. Each midterm may be retaken once; the result of the retake replaces the original midterm result. To obtain a passing grade, each midterm must be completed with at least 50% in its respective topic. At the end of the semester, an additional second retake opportunity will be organized covering the entire course material; the result of this exam will also replace any previous result. The final grade is calculated from the total number of points obtained in the midterms as follows:  0–49%: fail (0–13 points); 50–59%: pass (14–17 points); 60–75%: satisfactory (18–21 points); 75–89%: good (22–25 points); above 90%: excellent (26–33 points) In addition to the midterm points, it is possible to obtain up to 5 additional points for students who have already achieved at least a passing level in the midterms. To earn these points, students must give a short presentation on a topic agreed upon in advance. Suggested topics are available on the course platform. The grading thresholds have been designed so that no extra points are required to obtain a passing grade if the minimum midterm scores are achieved, and it is also possible to obtain an excellent grade without earning any extra points. Re-takes: Two retake midterms (one per thematic unit), plus one additional comprehensive retake covering the full course material. Consultations: Available during class or at a time arranged via email.
