Objectives
− Classification of materials, industrial application of metals. Crystalline structure of metals ans structure property correlations. Basic mechanisms of shaping.
− Mechanical properties of metals, standard methods for determination of strength, stiffness, and deformation. Parameters influencing the brittle and tough behavior of metals.
− Use of binary phase diagrams of metals and alloys. Alloying.
− Non-equilibrium transformation of steels. Isotherm and non-isotherm C-curves, basics of annealing of metals.
− Production of metals in practice and in theory. Preparation of iron or steel.
− Alloying of steel and their effects on the properties. Application and chemical composition of steels. Classification of steels according to their application.
− Basics of Al-, Ti, and Cu-alloys.
− Metal casting and casting technologies. Alloys for casting: cast-iron and steel castings.
− Shaping technologies, deformation mechanisms. Instruments used for shaping of metals. Shaping curves.
− Shaping of metal films and sheets, chill rolling, cutting, cold work and strain hardening.
− Theory and principls of welding, soldering, brazing and cutting.
− Light and non-ferrous metals, metal matrix composites and its properties. The opportunities of strengthening.
