Objectives
LECTURES
1. The measurement, as a part of the modeling, and as comparison. Simple and complex measurement. Classification of the instruments. Active and passive measurement methods. Types of the signs. Characterisation of stochastic signs in time and frequency domains. (2 hours)
2. Static characteristics of instruments. Their dynamic behaviour in time and frequency domain. The transfer function. (2 hours)
3. Basic electronic relations and devices in DC and AC circuits (Kirchoff’s, Thevenin’s and Norton’s laws, resistance, capacity, impedance). Basic semiconductor devices and their operation: diodes (rectification, voltage stabilization,light emission, light intensity measurement) and transistors (amplification, switching). Power supplies. (2 hours)
4. The characteristics and Bsic circuits of operational amplifiers (inverting and non inverting amplifier; summing, logaritmic, exponential, multiplicating, integrating, differentiating circuits; high-pass, low-pass and band filters). (2 hours)
5. Applications of operational amplifiers in instruments: current/voltage and voltage/current converters, instrumental amplifiers, bridge circuits, voltage and current generators. (2 hours)
6. Important circuits in instrumentation (logical circuits, oscillators, multivibrators, counters). DA and AD conversion, converters and their auxiliary circuits. Basic concepts os digitalization. Accuracy of the converters. (2 hours)
7. Voltage measurement (analog and digital, DC and AC). Error sources (big source impedance, thermo-electricity and the effect of noise). Signal to noise ratio improvement by analog (shielding, elimination of grounding loops, averaging) and digital (accumulation, integration, operations in frequency domain) means. (2 hours)
8. Fundamentals of the computer oriented instrumentation. Instrumental PC cards and their use. Connecting instruments (buses and interfaces, serial, USB, parallel, GPIB). Data sampling and control of instruments in laboratory and industry. Transmitters. (2 hours)
9. Measurement of temperature. The international temperature scale. Resistance thermometers made of metals and semiconductors. Thermo-couples and their operation. (2 hours)
10. Measurement of force, deformation and pressure. Piezoresistive pressure sensors. Level measurement (capacitive and ultrasonic gauges and switches). Measurement of flow velocity (turbine, thermowire, inductive, eddy and ultrasound instruments). (2 hours)
11. Gas sensors. Nondispersive (NDIR) and filter equipped infra-red gas analysers. Catalytic burner gas sensors. Paramagnet and thermo magnet oxygen analysers. Electrochemical gas sensor cells. Moistness measurement. (2 hours)
12. Microelectronic sensors. Biooptical sensors. Inflammation-proof and explosion-proof solutions ( separation by optocoupler or insulated amplifier). (2 hours)
