Objectives
1. Rubber as special material and its place among structural materials. Specific characteristics of rubbers. Rubber as structural material. Special application areas of rubbers. Physical and chemical characteristics of rubber products.
2. Components required for the production of rubber parts. Reactions leading to the development of the chemical structure of rubber. Natural rubber and its modified compounds. Synthetic rubbers. Vulcanizing agents. Chemicals modifying the curing reaction. Other compounds. Fillers. Plasticizers. Solvents. Determination of the composition of additive packages.
3. Load bearing components of reinforced rubber parts. Textile fibers. Metal fibers, twisted wires, fabrics. The role of adhesion, agents improving adhesion.
4. Basic processes and equipment in rubber technology. Processes and machines of compounding. Calendaring. Extrusion. Impregnation of textiles, coating methods and equipment. Vulcanization.
5. Testing of rubber parts. Methods for the characterization of elastomers and raw rubber compounds. Determination of vulcanization characteristics. Mechanical and thermal characterization of rubber. Testing of electric properties. Chemical analysis. Application tests. Testing of adhesives.
