Objectives
I. The basics of Intellectual Property (IP )
1. IP Management in the Innovation Process. Economical basics of the IP Management.
IP protection categories: patent -, utility model-, design- and trademark know how protection.
The role of the patents in the Plastic Industry. The patenting process. (2 classes)
2. Possibilities to obtain patent protection. Performing a novelty search, taking the results into account when preparing the patent description.
The role of patent claims and their formulation. Hungarian and international IP databases.
Presentation of practical examples of production, application and processing. The role and importance of international industrial property protection.
The importance of the utility model and the design protection. Definition of the trademark protection, case studies in the field of the Plastic Industry. (10 classes)
II. International cooperation in the IP protection
3. Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property. (2 classes)
4. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The European Patent Convention (EPC). The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). (4classes)
5. The Visegrad Patent Institute (VPI) as an intergovernmental organization for cooperation in the field of patents, established by the four Visegrad countries: the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Republic of Poland and the Slovak Republic (V4 countries). (4 classes)
6. The Global Patent Prosecution Highway (GPPH), a multilateral agreement between national and regional intellectual property offices, providing applicants with fast-track patent examination procedures to obtain corresponding patents faster and more efficiently. (4 classes)
7. Hungarian and international IP databases. (2 classes)
Projectworks (P):
1. The student explores the documents closest to his own research topic using the IP databases. He/She evaluates whether there is a chance to protect his/her results with one of the forms of IP (patent, utility model, design or trademark protection). He/She justifies his decision and outlines the way forward.
2. The student develops a patent search strategy on the topic of development of polypropylene-based industrial products, defining the relevant IPC (International Patent Classification) class and the most important research organizations, as well as describing the applicable databases and keywords.
3. The student explores the state of the art in the field of development of nanocellulose and nanostarch based products. He/She describes and evaluates the most relevant patent documents found from the point of view of whether they can be used for the purpose of moving forward and determines the form of IP that can be considered for the eventual protection of the results achieved so far.
