Objectives
Introduction
The importance, classification, general characteristics, most significant application areas and economic importance of fibres. Traditional and new methods for production of fibres with different properties. High-performance fibres. Micro and nanofibres.
Fibres, yarns and textiles
Fibre formation technologies. Machines and equipment. Basic properties of fibres. Effect of fibre properties on the spinnability, processing and applications.
Special fibre formation technologies (split and fibrillated fibres, multicomponent fibres, electrospinning, spun laid, flash spinning).
Traditional and new structures created by spinning, knitting and weaving, and their main application areas.
Fibres with special functionalities
Fibres with special functionalities. High performance and super fibres. Finishing, aftertreatments, coating. Plasma treatment. Surface modification with different technologies. Bicomponent fibres. Superabsorbent, antimicrobial, UV absorber, flame-resistant etc. fibres. Simple and instrumental analysis of fibres and their functionalities.
Super fibres, High-performance fibres
Carbon fibres: fabrication and properties. PAN precursor production and properties. After-treatments of the precursor. Production from different precursors. Processing stages of carbon fibre production: stabilization, carbonization, graphitization. Surface modification and sizing. Properties and application areas.
Aromatic polyamide fibres, ceramic fibres, glass fibres. Fibres with special resistance.
Micro and nanofibres.
New and environmentally friendly technologies of fibres and textiles
Textile biotechnology. Plasma surface treatment. Treatments in supercritical carbon dioxide. Use of ultrasound in the textile wet processes. Advantages, disadvantages and possible applications.
Fibres for special applications
Natural fibre reinforced composites. Fibres and cars. Fibres for geotextiles. Fibres in filtration. Fibres in sport. Fibres and textiles for protective clothing. Military textiles.
