Objectives

Programme

6. 1. GC-MS techniques, speacial aspects on capabilities of low and high resolution mass spectrometry. Designing separations and interpretaion of GC-MS data.

- Advantages of hyphenated (multidimensional) techniques. GC-MS, GC-FTIR, GC-ICP, compared to GC-FID, GC-TID, GC-ECD, GC-FPD and GC-PID. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

- Advantages of GCxGC compared to one dimensional GC. GCxGC-FID and GCxGC-ToF. Application of the methods to food contaminants. Data interpretation. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

- High resolution techniques (HRGC-HRMS) and their advantages compared to low resolution GC-MS. Applications in food analysis. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

- Ion sources: electron ionization and chemical ionization. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

- Use of spectrum libraries. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

- Designing gas chromatographic measurements and its relation to sample preparation in food analysis. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

6. 2. HPLC-MS: ionization, applications, analyzers, hybrid instruments. Prerequisities of the liquid chromatographic separations. Designing separations.

- General requirements for hyphenation of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Athmospheric pressure electrospray and ionspray sources. Ionizable compounds. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

-  Athmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) and photoionization (APPI) and their applications in food analyis and other industries. Other ionization techniques. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

- Rules of designing liquid chromatographic separations. Differences in buffer systems and column choice when using HPLC-MS. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

- Requirements for advanced sample preparation methods for HPLC-MS. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

- HPLC-MS-MS and HPLC-MSn, hybrid techniques and their operation. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

- Designing separation for HPLC-MS and HPLC-MS-MS determination of food contaminants. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

- Fast liquid chromatography: UHPLC, HTLC, monolith columns and applications in food control. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

6. 3. Other hyphenated techniques

- CE-MS: challenges of coupling CE to MS. Advantages and disadvantages compared to HPLC-MS. Introduction to method development. Lecturer: Sándor Tömösközi

- SFC-MS: advantages and disadvantages compared to HPLC-MS and GC-MS. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

- HPLC-NMR: current opinion and possible future trends. Lecturer: Jenő Fekete

- Advanced separation technologies in food analysis. Affinity separation methods: capillary chromatography and affinity CE. Common electrophoretic techniques and their applications in practice. Lecturer: Sándor Tömösközi

The subject lays emphasis on the applications of modern separation methods, especially on hyphenated techniques. The use of this applications is neccesary in the field of environmental protection, pharmaceutical industry, food industry, clinical biochemistry and synthetic industry.
