Objectives
Codes: coding of decimal numbers (weighted, self complementing, cyclic, redundant codes), ASCII codes. Representation of numbers, complement type representations.
Boolean algebra (basics, postulates, laws). Application of the Boolean algebra.
Logic functions, descriptions (algebraic form, truth table, Venn diagram), canonical form, minterms and maxterms. Minimization of logic functions (algebraic, tabular, and Karnaugh-map method).
Basic (basic gates) and complex (encoders, decoders, multiplexers, demultiplexers, adders, comparators, etc.) combinational networks. Transient behavior of combinational networks (hazards).
Sequential networks. Synchronous and asynchronous sequential networks. Methods of description (state table, state graphs), states, models of operation.
Simple (S-R, J-K and T) flip-flops.. Synchronous and s asynchronous flip-flops.
Complex sequential networks (counters, shift registers, etc.)
Design of synchronous sequential circuit of given structure.
Transient behavior of asynchronous sequential networks (race conditions, hazards).
Electrical properties of digital networks (logic level, transfer characteristic, propagation delay time, dissipation, SPP, fan-out).
Fabrication technologies of VLSI circuits (bipolar and MOS),
Integrated circuit logics (TTL, MOS, CMOS). Features, comparison, areas of applications.
Circuits of catalogue and application specific ICs (ASICs), Programmable circuits (PLA, PAL, etc.)
