Objectives

Programme

Competencies acquired upon successful completion of the course

A. Knowledge

Students will:

  1. know the fundamental concepts of combinational networks, the rules of Boolean algebra, methods of representing logical functions, and canonical forms,
  2. understand important coding concepts, code types, and code properties,
  3. be familiar with methods of error detection and error correction,
  4. know the implementation of logical functions using logic gates, gate symbols, basic types and operation of more complex combinational networks, and implementation of logical functions using multiplexers and decoders,
  5. understand algebraic, Karnaugh map–based, and tabular simplification methods for logical functions, including simplification of incompletely specified and multi-output logical functions,
  6. understand the basic concepts of sequential networks, the Mealy and Moore models, the operation of asynchronous and synchronous sequential networks, and design methods for synchronous sequential networks,
  7. understand the types, properties, and implementations of elementary sequential circuits (flip-flops),
  8. be familiar with the types and properties of complex sequential circuits, shift registers, and counters,
  9. know the major types of semiconductor electronic devices, their operating mechanisms, and characteristics,
  10. understand the switching operation of semiconductors, the characteristics of switching processes, and their physical background,
  11. know the structure, electrical characteristics, timing issues, hazard phenomena, and hazard mitigation methods of logic circuits,
  12. have knowledge of the types, structures, and programming methods of application-specific and programmable circuits.

B. Skills

Students will be able to:

  1. identify digital electronics problems and formulate the theoretical and practical background necessary for solving them,
  2. design, assemble, and test more complex circuit functions using learned basic circuits and principles,
  3. formulate logic problems, derive and simplify logical functions, and implement them using logic gates,
  4. create state diagrams and state tables for sequential networks, systematically design sequential circuits, and implement them using elementary gates and flip-flops,
  5. apply circuit simulation knowledge to solve complex tasks,
  6. express ideas clearly in both written and spoken form.

C. Attitude

Students will:

  1. cooperate with instructors and fellow students during knowledge acquisition,
  2. continuously expand their knowledge through ongoing learning,
  3. be open to the use of information technology tools,
  4. strive to become familiar with and routinely use tools necessary for solving electronic engineering problems,
  5. aim for precise and error-free task completion.

D. Autonomy and responsibility

Students will:

  1. independently analyze and solve electronic engineering tasks and problems based on available resources,
  2. openly accept well-founded critical remarks,
  3. cooperate with fellow students as part of a team in certain situations,
  4. apply a systems-oriented approach in their thinking.
Knowledge of digital electronics and digital systems is indispensable in the field of mechatronics. The course introduces the fundamental devices of digital electronics, their operation, and design methods. The aim is to provide students with electronics knowledge at a level enabling them to understand systems using microelectronic devices based on technical documentation or operating equipment, and to design and functionally test simpler circuits, primarily within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

General rules
Requirements: Learning outcomes are assessed during the semester through two comprehensive written tests (midterm exams) and preliminary assessments conducted before laboratory sessions. Detailed description of semester assessments Preliminary assessment: Verification of the knowledge competencies necessary for successfully completing subsequent course tasks, based on the material related to the given laboratory exercise. This may take the form of a short written or oral quiz, or verification of preparatory assignments issued before the measurements. Assessment result: pass/fail. Laboratory exercises may only begin after a successful preliminary assessment. Attendance and completion of laboratory exercises are mandatory.Comprehensive assessment (midterm exam): Complex written assessment of the course’s knowledge and skills competencies in the form of two midterm exams. The exams focus on applying acquired knowledge, emphasizing problem recognition and problem solving. Students must solve both theoretical and practical (calculation-based) tasks. The combined score of the two exams must reach the minimum passing requirement.Weight of semester assessments   TypeWeight Midterm exam 1.50% Midterm exam 2.50% Összesen100%   Grade scale:   Grade [ECTS qualification]Score Excellent (5) [A] above 90% Very Good (5) [B] 85–90% Good (5) [C] 70–85% Satisfactory (3) [D]55–70% Passed (2) [E]40–55% Failed (1) [F]below 40% The lower boundary values listed belong to the respective grade.  Additional possibilities: Corrections and retakes A maximum of two missed laboratory exercises may be made up at the end of the semester or during the retake week. In justified cases, make-up sessions may also be completed during the semester by joining another lab group, depending on available lab capacity and prior arrangement.During the semester, the first midterm exam may be retaken; during the retake week, one of the two midterm exams may be retaken.
