Objectives

Programme
The topic of the diploma thesis can be chosen from among the topics of a department participating in this masters’ program (preferably the one managing the specialization selected by the student).
The topic of a department, not teaching in the student’s specialization, is only acceptable if the student has obtained the permission of the manager of the specialization.

A topic offered by another faculty, university or external company (economic organization) can only be accepted if the head of departments managing the student’s specialization supports it and assigns a supervisor from the department. The external supervisor, approved by the head of the department, can be an expert with a university or master (MSc) degree. When selecting the topic of diploma thesis and preparing the thesis itself, students must make sure to avoid violating the interest of the company (economic organization) so that his/her work can be reviewed. In some exceptional cases, leading companies or economic corporations in the line of research and development may announce confidential thesis topics. Students must be informed about the confidentiality of the topic.

The thesis can also be prepared abroad, in English. In such a case, the topic and tasks must be agreed in advance with the department in charge of the specialization in a similar way to the external thesis. The thesis must comply with domestic regulations. A short, written opinion on the student's work and the thesis must be requested from the foreign consultant, which must be submitted to the final examination committee. The thesis prepared abroad must be defended in the final examination in the same way as thesis prepared at home.

It is possible to specify a common thesis topic to two or multiple students only if the results of the work can be separated. The topic/task assignments must be issued separately, with subtasks clearly designated to specific students, and in the task description it must be specified which part is carried out by which student, either it is independent or group work. In the case of a group work, specific subtasks can be handled confidentially. A thesis topic becomes confidential if at least one of the subtasks is confidential.

In the case of a common topic, it must be clearly indicated which subtask was not written independently. It should be considered however, that in  “Diploma Thesis Design 2” no common topics can assigned to students.

To obtain the master’s degree, the student must prepare an MSc diploma thesis which should prove that the candidate can perform independent engineering work, he/she can apply engineering methods, he/she is capable of understanding the task, and to interpret and analyze the chosen solution. The course program: literature research, preparation of a plan for solving an engineering problem, pro-rate progress during the work.

General rules
Requirements: During the semester: Obtaining a mid-term grade: The subject is completed if the student has done preparatory work and is ready for Diploma Thesis Design 2 subject.  The schedule of mid-term supervision:  The supervisor continuously keeps track of the work schedule, the progress of the work and the preparation of the student. If the student does not work at the department, he/she shall regularly report to the supervisor about the work. • The written final report shall be submitted 5 workdays before the oral account. Its volume is about 30 pages. • At the end of the study period, the student shall give a 10-minute presentation about his/her work in a session at a prearranged time. • The written final report shall be uploaded on the Thesis Portal of the faculty. Determining mid-term grades:  The mid-term subject grade is given by the supervisors of the educational committee (consisting of min. 3 members) which is based on the following factors: • professional value of the work; • the student’s attitude to work and the completion of work; • the result of the account; • the documentation of the work. Students fail if they • have neglected their work • did not accomplish the work assigned for the semester until the deadline of the account • did not complete either the written or the oral part of the account until the deadline Additional possibilities: The end-of-semester written report can be made up until the end of the delayed completion period.
