Objectives
Derivatives of carbonic acid: Chlorides, esters, urethanes. Urea and derivatives. Carbon disulfide, xanthogenates, thiourea and derivatives. Isocyanates, isothiocyanates, cyanamides, carbodiimides, guanidines.
Diazomethane, diazonium salts: Diazomethane and aromatic diazonium salts. The Sandmeyer reaction.
Sulfur and phosphor-containing compounds: Thiols, sulfides, sulfonium salts, sulfoxides, sulfones, sulfonic acids. The Wittig reaction.
Unsaturated carboxylic acids, lipids: The α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids. Saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. Arachidinic acid. Triglycerides, phospholipids, terpenes, steroids.
Substituted acids: α-, β-, γ-, and δ-halogen, hydroxy, and oxo acids and derivatives. The acetoacetic ester synthesis.
Stereochemistry: The Emil Fischer convention. Asymmetric synthesis. Resolution.
Amino acids and proteins: Structure, synthesis of amino acids and peptides. Primer, secondary, tertiary and quaternary structure of proteins. The Ramachandran diagram.
Carbohydrates: Monosaccharides, oligosaccharides, polysaccharides. Structure and tautomerism. Derivatives of carbohydrates. Ascorbinic acid.
Nucleic acids: Nucleotides, DNS and RNS.
Polycyclic aromatic compounds: Naphthalene, anthracene, phenanthrene. Biphenyl, diphenyl- and triphenylmethane, trityl chloride.
Heterocycles: Five- and six-membered heterocycles. Pyrrole, furan, thiophene, oxazole, thiazole, imidazole, indole, pyran, pyridine, isoquinoline, pyrimidine, purine.
