Objectives
Programme
Session 1 - Temperature measurement and regulation
During the session, the students get to know the application technique of platinum resistance thermometers, which are often used in industry. On a test panel, the active measuring bridge connecting circuit of the resistance thermometer is assembled, measured and calibrated. With the help of the interface circuit, hysteresis control is implemented by measuring the temperature of a tank with the sensor.
Session 2 - Pressure measurement and regulation
During the session, students learn about the application technology of 4-20mA current transmitters and industrial compact regulators used in process control. The interface circuit of a transmitter with a current output of 4-20mA is assembled and measured on a test panel, and then it is fitted into the control circuit. A pressure transmitter, a proportional valve and an industrial compact regulator are used to control the pressure of a tank, examining the parameterization possibilities of different types of serial compensators.
Session 3 - Position control
The task is to control a one-dimensional positioning system with the help of hardware and software tools that support rapid prototyping. In the Matlab-Simulink environment, the students design a PID controller and a discrete state-space control for the plant, and then examine their operation after implementation.
Session 4 – Indoor lighting control
During the session, students can get to know some phases of the rapid prototyping methodology by controlling the lighting of a room. The task is to ensure the required level of illumination in the room, for which light sensors and LED light sources with controllable intensity are available as actuators. The students first design the lighting control algorithm in the LabVIEW environment, and then, after tuning the parameters, implement the final algorithm on an embedded platform.
Session 5 – Control with PLC 1
In the framework of the session, the students get to know the structure of pneumatic devices, their sensors and actuators. During the session, they get to know the structure and development environment of the Rockwell Micro 830 series compact PLCs, and they can also practice the basic techniques of PLC programming and implement simple control tasks.
Session 6 – Control with PLC 2
During the session, the students solve a simple control task, monitor the controlled technology. They also implement a human-machine interface (HMI) with a touch display. During the solution of the task, they become familiar with the Siemens TIA Portal development environment and the design principles of human-machine interfaces and their implementation.
Session 7 - Control with PLC 3
In the framework of the session, the students control complex process models with the help of PLCs. They study the design and implementation principles of complex control applications, the use of the CoDeSys development environment, and practice the development in a structured text programming language.
Session 8 – Industrial robot programming
During the session, the students study an industrial robot and the most important instructions of its robot programming language. During the implementation of a sorting task, the most important positions are trained using the robot's teachbox, the robot program implementing the task is prepared, its testing is carried out and the robotic solution of the sorting task is demonstrated.
Session 9 – Path planning and control of a mobile robot
During the measurement session, the students control a mobile robot and solve a simple navigation task. Through the task, students will get to know the most important sensors of mobile robots, their application possibilities, as well as the basic principles of the trajectory tracking control of autonomous platforms. National Instruments' rapid prototyping hardware-software environment is available to solve this task.
Session 10 - Industrial image processing in a LabVIEW environment
During the session, students can try out the most common operations and algorithms used in industrial image processing. After getting to know the various filtering, thresholding, edge detection, and morphological algorithms, the students must also solve a real image processing task for quality control purposes.
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the application of devices and methods used in control technology. During the measurement sessions of the subject, students can get to know in practice the operation and interface circuits of some sensors, the application technique of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), the use of software and hardware tools that support rapid prototyping, and the basics of programming industrial and mobile robots.
A student who successfully fulfills the requirements of the subject will be able to
(K2) interpret the requirements for the adapter circuits of various sensors and transmitters and choose suitable circuit arrangements for them
(K3) for PLC-based implementation of typical control tasks in industrial practice
(K3) to solve simpler management tasks using rapid prototyping tools
(K3) to apply basic industrial image processing algorithms

General rules
Requirements:
During the period of classes
Study the material of the ten laboratory measurement sessions, execution of tasks during the sessions according to the schedule defined
b. During the exam period: none
c. Preliminary exam: none
The condition for obtaining credits is the successful completion of all measurement sessions (at least at a pass level). The condition for participation in the sessions is the completion of at least a sufficient level of the assessment quiz at the beginning of the session. The student receives a separate grade for each session (based on the assessment quiz, measurement work and report), the mid-semeter mark is calculated by rounding the average of the marks received for the sessions.
Additional possibilities:
We provide a total of two retake options for measurement session at a time agreed in advance with the lecturer.
